Welcome to the first edition of our ‘HCL Staff Success’ series, which aims to shine a light on our greatest asset – our people! At HCL, career progression isn’t just a possibility, it’s a priority. The HCL Career Path enables employees to develop their careers further, to challenge themselves and to have the support of their employer along the way.

We are thrilled to launch the series off with a spotlight on Lindsey Mead, the Senior Accountant within our Finance Department. Lindsey’s impressive career at HCL started in August 2014 when she joined the company as a Mobile General Assistant (GA).
Over the past 10 years at HCL, Lindsey has held a total of 6 different positions and has been promoted 5 times! This is Lindsey’s career path:

“I first started working for HCL as a Mobile GA when my twin’s started reception. The job was advertised on the back of an HCL dinner menu, and I thought it was a perfect way to get back to work after a 4-year career break that also fit around their school hours.”
After two years working as a Mobile GA and then Mobile Cook, Lindsey applied for a term-time role as Finance Assistant. After 6 months as a Finance Assistant, Lindsey was asked if she’d like to study AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians).
“I completed AAT Level 2, 3 and 4 over the next 3 years, after which I qualified as an Accounts Technician. I was then promoted to Accountancy Officer.”
Lindsey had passed with high grades, and current CEO Ian Hamilton (Finance Director at the time) suggested that she continue her studies in ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants). With Ian’s encouragement, Lindsey enrolled as an Apprentice on a Level 7 Apprenticeship and began the ACCA course.
“Over the following 2.5 years, I completed every exam first time and in April 2024, I qualified as a Chartered Accountant. I was then promoted to Senior Accountant. I’ve been incredibly lucky to be surrounded by supportive senior members of staff, who not only recognised that I had the ability to achieve such things, but also who gave me the most encouragement to persevere and push myself beyond what I thought was possible.”
After a decade at HCL, we asked Lindsey what she enjoys most about working at HCL.
“I have constantly progressed in my career whilst working for HCL. They have fully supported me throughout, allowing me to gain qualifications and promotions whilst also raising my family. I know I am incredibly lucky for the opportunities that have arisen. Not only this, but I’ve always been encouraged to take part in things that push me out of my comfort zone, such as conducting interviews, presentations and taking minutes for board meeting. All of which I was incredibly nervous about, but by doing these things, it has given me the vital experience needed to progress.

HCL is incredibly proud of Lindsey’s career successes, which she achieved through her consistent hard work, commitment and dedication. Congratulations on your qualifications and on your well-deserved promotion to Senior Accountant, Lindsey!
